האופרה ״מאדאם בטרפליי״
האופרה הירושלמית והתזמורת הסימפונית ירושלים מביאות לבמה את האופרה המפורסמת ״מאדאם בטרפליי״ מאת ג'קומו פוצ'יני, לציון 100 שנה למותו של המלחין (בנובמבר 1924).
זוהי אופרה בשלוש מערכות שנכתבה ללברית מאת לואיג'י איליקה וג'וזפה ג'אקוזה. היא מבוססת בחלקה על סיפור קצר מאת ג'ון לות'ר לונג (1898) וכן גם על הרומן "Madame Chrysanthème" מאת פייר לוטי.
"מאדאם בטרפליי" הועלתה לראשונה ב- 1904 בבית האופרה "לה סקאלה״ שבמילאנו. היא נחשבת לאחד מנכסי צאן הברזל של הרפרטואר האופראי העולמי ומועלית דרך קבע על כל בימות האופרה בעולם.
האופרה מתרחשת בעיר נגסאקי. זמן התרחשות האופרה המקורית הוא בתקופת חייו של המלחין, אך בהפקה זו העתיק הבמאי את העלילה אל תחילת שנות ה-50 של המאה העשרים, מיד אחרי מלחמת העולם והטלת פצצת האטום על הירושימה ונגסאקי. קצין צי אמריקאי נושא לאישה מתוך יצר הרפתקנות גיישה בת חמש עשרה, ונוטש אותה לאחר שהמירה את דתה למענו והוחרמה על ידי משפחתה. מתוך אמונה עיוורת באהבתו היא מחכה לשובו יחד עם בנם שנולד לאחר שננטשה, למרות נסיונותיהם של קרובי משפחתה לשכנעה לשכוח אותו ולהתחתן עם אחר. הקצין חוזר לאחר מספר שנים בלוויית אשתו האמריקאית החדשה, על מנת לקחת את בנו שעל קיומו שמע מהקונסול האמריקני בנגסאקי. חלומה של בטרפליי נשבר באחת. היא נפרדת מבנה בסצנה קורעת לב ולאחר מכן מתאבדת. פינקרטון מלא החרטה נכנס בסערה לביתה על מנת לבקש את סליחתה, אך מאחר את המועד.

THE OPERA “MADAME BUTTERFLY”
The Jerusalem Opera and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, bring to the stage the famous opera “Madame Butterfly”, in commemoration of 100 years since the death of the composer, Giacomo Puccini (in November 1924).
This is an opera in three acts, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. The opera is based in part on the short story "Madame Butterfly" (1898) by John Luther Long and on the 1887 French novel "Madame Chrysanthème" by Pierre Loti.
The opera was first performed at “La Scala” in Milan, Italy in 1904. It is considered one of the cornerstones of modern opera and one of the most performed operas around the world.
The opera takes place in Nagasaki. The original story is contemporary with Puccini’s life, but this production places the scene in the early 1950's, in the aftermath of the complete destruction of Nakasake by the atomic bomb, at the end of World War II. An American naval officer marries a fifteen-year-old geisha and abandons her soon after, even though she has taken on his religion and has been outcast by her family. She tirelessly awaits his return, together with their son who was born after she was abandoned, blindly believing in his eternal love for her, despite pressure from her family to forget him and marry another.
After a few years, the officer returns, accompanied by his new American wife. He intends to take his son, whose existence he has learned about from the American Consul in Japan. Butterfly’s dream is abruptly shattered by this new reality. She says goodbye to her son in a heart-wrenching scene and then commits suicide. Pinkerton storms back, after regretting his decision to abandon her, only to arrive too late.
